Bentuk instalasi pada DFT datar sehingga dapat mempertahankan air nutrisi untuk menggenang. Ketinggian air nutrisi yang menggenang di dalam instalasi sekitar 4 \u2013 6 cm. Proses pembanjiran ini akan terjadi apabila pompa air menyala, sedangkan jika mati maka akan terjadi penyurutan. Sesuai dengan namanya, cara menanam di media ini cukup mudah. Tanaman akan diletakkan di atas\u00a0<em>styrofoam<\/em>\u00a0yang sudah dibolongi dan nantinya akan mengapung di atas larutan nutrisi. Penggunaan budidaya ini cocok untuk digunakan dalam skala kecil maupun skala besar, termasuk untuk kebutuhan komersial.
